A Suffolk organisation helping young families care for their babies has celebrated the opening of its first dedicated centre by showcasing the range of classes and activities it can now offer under one roof.

Around 100 people attended the grand opening of Suffolk Babies’ new centre in Kesgrave on Saturday where they could take part in pilates taster classes, messy play, balloon modelling and more.

The community interest company was set up around five years ago “to give families the best antenatal and postnatal education in Suffolk, delivered in an ethical way”.

Company director Jo Cresdee said the new centre would help raise its profile and offer more services to young families.

“It’s amazing,” she added.

“We’ve come so far over the past five years and at times it really has been a battle to keep all of the classes going.

“Previously, we have been relying on village halls, which we have to pay for by the hour, but this means we can offer so much more.”

As a not-for-profit organisation, Suffolk Babies reinvests income to provide classes for Suffolk families who cannot afford to pay.

Mrs Cresdee said she wanted to offer families choice by bringing together a range of classes and organisations, to provide continuity throughout the antenatal and postnatal period.

Classes offered include movement, massage, music, yoga, sensory activities, relaxation and fun, and are available for families from early pregnancy through to toddler-age.

Following the centre’s official opening, Suffolk Babies also hopes to work in closer partnership with a wider range of official health organisations.
