Beauty therapy students have taken time out of their studies to pamper patients in Ipswich Hospital.
The group from Suffolk New College visited the hospital earlier this month as part of a campaign called Kissing it Better.
The scheme aims to empower people to use their skills to make a positive difference to patients in hospitals and care homes.
Julie Sadler, Ipswich Hospital’s senior nurse for dementia and adult safeguarding, said: “This helps our patients in so many ways and it gives them a sense of human interaction. Some of them might have been through a stressful time so this has been relaxing for them and it reduces stress.”
Patient Sandra Potkin, who was treated to a manicure, said: “It’s been lovely. It makes you feel good and the students have treated me very well.”
Suffolk New College beauty therapy lecturer, Gillian Swain, said the project had given the students a confidence boost.
Heather McGlynn, 19, is on a level two beauty therapy course at Suffolk New College. She said: “It’s been nice to chatting to the patients. It makes me feel like I’m helping others and making them feel happier about themselves.”
