Suffolk police swooped on an address in Ipswich, shutting an entire road in the town centre and arresting two men.

Officers in Ipswich proactively signalled a car to pull over close to the Ipswich Novotel hotel around 2.45pm on Ocotber 12.

As a consequence of the stop, five police vehicles and a fire crew were deployed to the a house in Benezet Street, with police sniffer dogs also in attendance.

The road was cordoned off by police, two men were arrested and officers conducted a search of a property on the road.

The road was opened and cleared around 4pm.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said last night that one of the men was arrested for possession of a bladed weapon and remains in custody.
