An Ipswich park has reopened following reports that a weapon attack left its victim with serious injuries yesterday evening.
Suffolk police closed Christchurch Park following reports of an assault, which is alleged to have happened at around 5.40pm yesterday, Sunday, August 5.
Officers had received reports of an altercation between two people who were known to each other.
One of the people was initially reported to have suffered a potentially serious injury, inflicted by a weapon.
However, on arrival to the park, officers could not locate the victim or the suspect, though both were potentially still in the park.
“Officers closed the park in order to conduct a thorough search,” a spokesman added.
“The victim has now been located and has not sustained any serious injuries.”
“Enquiries are currently ongoing to locate and identify the suspect.”
A spokesman confirmed this morning that Christchurch Park had reopened to the public from around 8pm last night and that the search was no longer focussed in the area.
Anyone who has witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident reference 289 of August 5.
People can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
