The baby was born in Surrey at 4.20pm weighing 6lb 2oz. Sophie, 42, and the Earl of Wessex are said to be “absolutely thrilled”.
The couple already have a four-year-old daughter, Lady Louise Windsor.
Today Liz Harsant, leader of Ipswich Borough Council, sent her best wishes to the family.
She said: “I'm thrilled, I'm a great royalist.
“I'd sending lots of congratulations and best wishes.”
