The furry explorers, fitted out with spacesuits designed by children along with a GPS system and camera, were attached to a helium balloon and propelled 30,000m into the sky on Monday.

After being blasted off from Churchill College in Cambridge the toys, controlled by computer, returned safely to earth just north of Ipswich following a two hour flight.

Cambridge University said the project was part of an initiative to “engage local schoolchildren in science and engineering.”
