A TEENAGE girl killed in a road accident near Ipswich has today been named as Sophie Underwood.

A TEENAGE girl killed in a road accident near Ipswich has today been named as Sophie Underwood.

The 18-year-old, from Ipswich, died in the three-car accident in Foxhall Road, Brightwell, shortly after 8pm yesterday.

Her family formally identified her body at Ipswich Hospital earlier today.

The tragedy, which happened near the Foxhall waste and recycling centre on a stretch of road which has become a notorious stretch for accidents, also saw two other people cut from their cars by firefighters and taken to Ipswich Hospital.

The 18-year-old victim was a passenger in a black Renault Clio which collided with a black VW Golf and grey VW Golf.

The 18-year-old girl driver of the Clio remains in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, the 53-year-old man driving the black VW Golf has been released from hospital.

The road was closed for six-and-a-half hours between the junction with the A12 and Dobbs Lane while crash investigations were carried out.

Police crash investigators said they were keen to hear from anyone with information about the accident.
