Teenagers from NCS Suffolk help to make Barham Care Centre dementia-friendly

The director of a Suffolk care home has expressed her gratitude to a group of teenagers who gave up their spare time to make the centre a brighter place for residents.

Fourteen people aged 15 to 17 from the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme spent four days at Barham Care Centre refurbishing the garden and painting three murals, focusing on making the site better for dementia patients.
The teens raised around £200 and collected donations of materials from businesses to carry out the improvements.
Meg Day, 16 and from Ipswich, was one of the youngsters who took part in the project. She said: “A lot of people in the group had relatives who had gone there previously and when we contacted them they were so thrilled.
“It was such a lovely feeling because when we walked through the residents looked so grateful and happy.

“We worked so well as a team to get it completed and we worked towards the goal of making this care home better for the residents.”
Prema Fairburn, director of Barham Care Centre, said: “These young people have worked really hard to approach companies and get the donations they need and they have done an excellent job.
