Developers at one of the busiest retail parks on the outskirts of Ipswich have confirmed the names of two new stores set to join.

Development work has been ongoing at Beardmore Park in Martlesham Heath, where a Wickes store, drive-through Costa and two other units have been built off Anson Road.

Now, developers LondonMetric have confirmed that the two new units between Tesco and the new Wickes will be a Topps Tiles and Evans Cycle shop.

A spokesman from LondonMetric said: “The new units will add to Martlesham Heath Retail Park’s status as a major contributor to the local economy.”

He added that the development will “improve the amount and variety of Martlesham Heath’s retail offer”.

The development of the two new stores, alongside Wickes and Costa is expected to create the equivalent of 61 full time jobs, with an additional 106 car park spaces in the area.

Topps Tiles already has a store at the park between Hobbycraft and the now-closed Brantano store, but is expected to move into the new unit for another retailer to occupy its existing unit.

LondonMetric has submitted a plan to sub-divide the unit where Topps Tiles and Evans Cycles will go, as it had previously been built as one unit.

However, there is believed to be an ongoing impasse as Suffolk Coastal District Council believe it is invalid, while LondonMetric said it had “received a legal opinion that states that our application is valid, and the council therefore has a duty to consider it”.

New stores have also been built opposite off Martinsyde, which in October the Star and EADT revealed would be filled with a Home Bargains shop and the Hughes Electrical store will be moving to one of the new units.

It is not yet clear what will be filling the existing Hughes store, but it is understood the possibility of dividing it into two or more stores.

It is understood that Boots has expressed an interest in filling a part of the unit.

Further development is also being planned for the other side of the bowling alley, where Aldi is hoping to create a store.
