ANOTHER sex shop could be on the horizon for Ipswich.

Just two months since the first ever sex shop licence was given in the town, a third application has now been submitted to Ipswich Borough Council.

The application for the premises in New Cardinal Street comes hot on the heels of proposals for a licenced shop in Upper Brook Street, which were revealed in the Evening Star last week.

But people working near to the shop, which was formerly Direct Windows and Home Improvements Ltd, are concerned at the news.

One woman, who did not want to be named, said: "Do we really need another one?

"Are we becoming the Amsterdam of England round here?

"There are an awful lot of families that come round here to go to the cinema with their children.

"Also in the football season there are lots of people walking through and Town have a lot of young supporters."

She was concerned about children being exposed to sex shops and was also worried about where people would park as there are double yellow lines around the whole area, although there is an NCP car park across the road.

John Gomm, an NCP car park attendant said he too was worried about the application because of the amount of youngsters who hang around the area.

He said: "Personally I would not like it in this area because of the kids.

"They use the ramp of the car park opposite for their skateboards and cycles and things like that."

The application has been placed by Bright Light Leisure Ltd from Cambridge. No one from the company was available for comment.

A spokesman from Ipswich Borough Council confirmed that an application had been received on April 24 and that anyone who wanted to make representations about it had 28 days to do so.

n. What do you think? Will it attract the wrong sorts of people or is it just harmless fun and do we need another sex shop in the town?
