Proposals for a new 100-bedroom Travelodge hotel near Ipswich station have been given the go-ahead in principle.
Members of Ipswich Council’s planning and development committee backed an application to build the new hotel on the opposite side of Ranelagh Road from the station on what is currently a car park for railway staff.
The final permission will be granted by officers once a few details have been sorted out with Suffolk County Council’s highway’s department – but that is not expected to mean a long delay.
The Travelodge application was submitted earlier this year when the company said the site was seen as very good because as well as being near the station it also had good access to the football club, the commercial area around Princes Street and Cardinal Park.
As well as 100 bedrooms the site will also include 45 car parking spaces – but many guests should arrive by train.
