YOUNG bookworms had a real treat when one of their favourite authors paid a visit.

Chris D'Lacey ran a number of storytelling sessions at St Joseph's College in Ipswich, working with children from the junior school and also with year seven and eight pupils.

To add to the fun, staff and children dressed up as characters from his books, which include Fly, Cherokee, Fly, The Fire Within and The Salt Pirates of Skegness.

"Everybody had a whale of a time," said Pauline Brown, head of the school's infants department. "The children were fascinated and have asked lots of questions."

Chris was born in Malta, but has spent most of his life in Leicester, where he works as a research scientist as well as writing his books.

As well as reading aloud from his books, he also signed copies for the pupils.

After school, Chris was the guest at a meeting of the Ipswich and District Children's Book Group.
