An attempt by the county council to clear the route of a cycle path through the Ravenswood development has left residents fuming.

Trees on the estate were planted and have been maintained by the borough council since the development opened in the early years of the century.

However, last week workers called in by Suffolk Highways cut back some of the trees without checking with the borough – which owns them.

Residents claim the work left the area looking messy – and borough spokesman said their staff had to go in a few days later and clear up after the county team.

Cuttings had been left on the ground – and the cycle path – and some trees needed extra attention.

A spokesman for the county said the priority had been to ensure that the path was safe for cyclists – but conceded it would have been better to talk to staff at the borough before their own workers moved in.

He said: “We shall bear this in mind in the future to try to ensure we know what is happening next time.”
