TONGA, Fiji and the Samoan islands are on alert after a tsunami warning was issued following a massive earthquake in the Pacific Ocean today.
The quake, which measured 8.0 on the Richter scale, struck about 95 miles north east of Nuku'alofa, Tonga's capital, at about 3.25pm.
Following the quake the US Geological Society said a tsunami warning was in effect for Tonga, Fiji and the Samoan islands because earthquakes that strong could trigger a lethal tsunami.
