A two vehicle crash on the A14 westbound at Wherstead is causing tailbacks past the Orwell Bridge this morning.

The incident involved a Nissan van and a Volkswagen Tiguan 4x4, in the outside lane of the A14 as it passes under the A137 bridge, close to the Wherstead junction.

An ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene and assessed the female driver of the Volkswagen who was experiencing neck pain. She was taken to Ipswich Hospital for further treatment.

The accident took place at around 8.10am.

Fire crews from Ipswich East and Princes Street, along with a rescue vehicle from Princes Street, attended and freed one person who was medically trapped in one of the vehicles.

The person had been freed from the vehicle soonafter 9.10am and fire crews had left the scene by 9.30am.

The road has been closed to allow recovery work to be carried out. A diversion is in place via exit and entry sliproads.
