The victim was assaulted in the bedroom of a property in Ann Street, off Norwich Road, early this morning.
An ambulance crew was called to the property just after 12.30am after the man sustained wounds to his head and body.
After initially being treated at the scene, the 26-year-old was taken to Ipswich Hospital.
Louise Rosher, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Police, said his wounds included a gash to the head, a cut to his left eye and bruising all over his body.
Although a weapon is believed to have been used to inflict some if not all of the injuries, police declined to say what it was.
