POLICE have launched a major investigation after two stores in Ipswich were held up at gunpoint by an armed robber.Firearms officers and dog units were scrambled following robberies at the Victoria Wine shop in Bramford Road and the Co-op store in Ulster Avenue yesterday.
POLICE have launched a major investigation after two stores in Ipswich were held up at gunpoint by an armed robber.
Firearms officers and dog units were scrambled following robberies at the Victoria Wine shop in Bramford Road and the Co-op store in Ulster Avenue yesterday.
In the first robbery, a man dressed in black threatened staff at the Victoria Wine store at 6.10pm with a handgun before escaping with a small amount of money.
Later in the evening a man walked into the Co-op store at 9.50pm, pulled a gun out on a female member of staff and fled with some cash.
Suffolk police said the robber was described as white, 6ft tall, with dark hair, with a black scarf over his face and wearing a black anorak with white stripes across it.
Police officers, supported by the firearms and dog units, were sent to the scene of both raids, but the gunmen were still at large last night.
Suffolk police were unable to say last night whether the two raids were linked, but appealed for anyone with information to contact 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
