POLICE are to speak to “key individuals” over allegations that Cabinet minister Chris Huhne tried to evade punishment for speeding.
Essex Police said contacts would be made as part of efforts to establish whether any offence had been committed.
The news will heap more pressure on Mr Huhne over claims that he asked his then-wife Vicky Pryce to accept penalty points on his behalf in 2003.
Earlier, Downing Street said that David Cameron still had confidence in Mr Huhne.
“The position on Chris Huhne has not changed,” the Prime Minister’s spokesman said. “He denies all the allegations on the issue.”
