UK: Two policemen stabbed in the street

TWO police officers were stabbed in Darlington, County Durham yesterday morning as they investigated reports of a man acting suspiciously.

When challenged, the man attacked the officers, stabbing one in the arm and one in the head at around 11am.

Members of the public who had seen what was happening helped the injured officers arrest the man.

The man, aged 22 and from the Darlington area, is being questioned by police.

The officers, one in his early 20s and the other in his late 30s, were taken to the Darlington Memorial Hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries, a Durham Police spokesman said.

Chief Superintendent Andy Reddick praised the passers-by for their bravery.

He said: “Recently there has been a number of instances where members of the public have given timely assistance to officers in executing their duty.
