Motorists in Felixstowe faced delays today after a lorry broke down at a busy A14 roundabout near the docks following an oil spill.

Police are still urging drivers to approach the Felixstowe Dock Gate 1 roundabout with care after the lorry broke down when spilling a “signifcant” amount of oil at around 1.45pm today.

The road fully reopened at 3.30pm after the vehicle was recovered and the oil was cleared before grit was applied.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said: “A member of the public called saying the lorry was rattling and banging before spilling a significant amount of oil at the roundabout.

“Engineers from the docks have dealt with the incident and it reopened at 3.30pm. Drivers should approach the area with care.”
