Commuters trying to get home for the weekend have faced delays as signalling problems held up trains at Ipswich.
Services going through the station were being disrupted - including trains between Stowmarket and Ipswich.
A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said earlier that Network Rail engineers had been en-route to investigate the fault.
The first train to be delayed was the 4pm Norwich to Liverpool Street service - it ran about 15 minutes late.
Congestion on the lines through the station began to ease by 6.30pm.
