A VAN driver had a lucky escape when his vehicle burst into flames on the A12.
He was driving on the northbound carriageway through Capel St Mary, near Ipswich, at about 3.50pm yesterdaywhen he saw smoke rising from the back of his van.
The driver, travelling in a Rank Leisure Services van from Chelmsford to a depot in Bury St Edmunds, pulled the vehicle over to the side of the dual carriageway before it was engulfed by flames. He was not hurt in the incident.
The queue of traffic caused by the blaze tailed back as far as Stratford St Mary.
