They were just days old and could barely open their eyes – but that didn’t stop someone dumping four cuddly kittens at an Ipswich skatepark.

The cute quartet were abandoned in a bin liner on the site near Stoke Bridge with no thought for their chances of survival.

Fortunately this story has a happy ending.

The kittens are now being lovingly hand-reared by staff at Orwell Vetinary Group’s Grange Farm hospital and have already been allocated to new homes.

One of the group’s vets, Zoe Armes, said staff had enjoyed looking after the new arrivals but had been shocked to hear their back story.

“They were brought in on Thursday, June 25 at around 10pm,” she said. “They came into our out of hours service. They were only a couple of days old.”

The first priority was to feed the kindle of kittens as Miss Armes said at such a young age they can lose weight very quickly.

“The vet who was on call took them home and gave them kitten milk every two hours,” she added.

“The day after we drew up a rota with different staff members taking them home each day.”

Miss Armes said the kittens, three boys (one tabby, one ginger and one grey) and one girl (also a tabby) had fortunately not been left in the skate park long.

Had they been there another 24 hours she said their situation could have been worse, and condemned the people who abandoned them.

“It was appalling, especially leaving them at a skate park,” Miss Armes said. “There are places that would have accepted them and there is a right way of going about it.”

Miss Armes also thanked the people, who she said were two polish men in their 20s, for doing the right thing and bringing the cats in.

She added when they found the kittens the men transferred them to a box lined with a jumper and caught a taxi to the vet’s in Kesgrave.

“They did a really good job,” she said.
