WORLD famous cellist Julian Lloyd Webber treated talented youngsters to a musical master class.

The brother of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber was at St Mary's Church in Woodbridge yesterday to the delight of pupils from a number of local schools.

He was on hand to offer advice to youngsters from the orchestra of Woodbridge School as well as play his own cello.

Mr Lloyd Webber was invited to take part in the workshops by his brother's wife's sister who works at the school.

He said: “Miranda asked if I would be interested in coming up and I always like to work with young people so of course I said yes,” he said. “It is very close to my heart because they are always so enthusiastic and love to learn and play music.

“I always enjoy my time in Suffolk. I played at the Corn Exchange in Ipswich only very recently and had a wonderful reception.”

The workshops were watched by a number of pupils from local schools as well as members of the public and were followed by an afternoon concert.

John Stafford, director of music at Woodbridge School, said it was a real privilege to have someone of Mr Lloyd Webber's stature taking the workshops.

“We are extremely privileged,” he said. “It is a great honour that he is able to join us and I'm sure the students will benefit enormously from his expertise.”
