A WOMAN has been taken to hospital with possibly life-changing injuries today after a serious road accident in Ipswich.

The accident happened in Holcombe Crescent, Chantry, Ipswich, at just before 11.10am this morning.

It is thought a woman was reversing her black Ford Fiesta near the junction with Denton Close when the car collided with railings.

She has been taken to Ipswich Hospital and the road has been closed while police officers investigate the accident.

The accident is believed to have happened as she leaned out of the car to reverse it, but exact details of what happened were unclear.

The road was sealed off by police who were called to the incident by the ambulance service who discovered that she had suffered very serious incidents.

A spokesman for the police said the woman's next of kin had been informed about the accident, but her name could not be released at this stage.

The road was expected to remain closed for some time while accident investigation officers carried out a detailed examination of the scene.

Holcombe Crescent is quiet suburban road on the Chantry estate, and only a few residents were at home when the accident happened during the middle of the morning.
