Warning for Town fans heading north

IPSWICH Town fans heading to Norwich for next month's eagerly-anticipated East Anglian derby were today advised to use the recommended car park in the city.

The majority of Blues supporters have traditionally made their way to Norfolk by train but rail services on December 7 have been cancelled due to essential line maintenance.

And with Norwich city centre expected to be congested in the run-up to Christmas, police are appealing to supporters to use the designated coach and car park located in Lower Clarence Road.

Fans who use the car park will be greeted by officers from Norfolk police and given directions to Carrow Road.

A Norfolk police spokesman said: “All efforts have been made in the planning of this event to ensure that all supporters of Ipswich Town Football Club can move to and from their arrival point in Norwich and the ground in a safe and secure environment.

“Norfolk Constabulary strongly recommends that all supporters adhere to instructions at all times given by the local police officers to assist in ensuring that a safe, enjoyable and memorable day is had by all attending.”

Carrow Road will open at 11.45am, at which point the bars within the stadium will be open to fans. The match will kick-off at 1.15pm.

Meanwhile, Town fans have also been warned that they may be requested to remain in their seats at the end of the game for a short period. This will allow the majority of Norwich City supporters to leave the stadium.

If the decision to hold fans back is taken, announcements will be made over the public address system and coaches will be held to ensure nobody misses their transport.
