IT was 1985: Gorbachev became the new leader of the Soviet Union, French secret agents sank Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior and the world was gripped by the phenomenon that was Live Aid.

It was also the year that Claire Addison (nee English), Lisa Ward and their friends kissed goodbye to their high school years.

Seventeen years on and they have decided the time has come to catch up with their former Farlingaye High School chums and have organised an informal reunion.

On Saturday anyone who was in Year 5 at the Woodbridge school in 1985 is invited to the Golf Hotel, in Foxhall Road, Ipswich.

It will be a chance to reminisce, relive the school years and get up to date on how each other's lives have changed since their teenage years.

Claire, who has dug out her old form photo for the occasion (Can you see yourself on it?), said: "It wasn't a bad year at all but we haven't kept in touch with a lot of my old friends which is one reason why we're organising this reunion.

"We've got the entrance list for our year and have taken the bull by the horns and using this and the Friends Reunited website have tried to get in contact with as many people as we can.

"There were about 270 people in our year and we've managed to contact about 80 of them. We want as many people as possible to come along."

n Farlingaye High School's Class of 1985 reunion is being held at the Golf Hotel, Foxhall Road, Ipswich, at 7pm on Saturday. Bring along your old school photos.
