A WINDSURFER was rescued from the sea after getting into difficulty off West Mersea.
Thames Coastguard received a call from a member of the public at 12.55pm yesterday.
They subsequently received reports from passing yachts of an abandoned board and sail in the same area.
The RAF rescue helicopter from Wattisham, the RNLI lifeboat from West Mersea and West Mersea Coastguards were a called to conduct an extensive search of the area.
After a search lasting nearly an hour a person was recovered from the water. Although the casualty was very cold, they did not need medical attention.
