A WOMAN has died following a hit and run incident in Ipswich today.

The 61-year-old was found collapsed in Stoke Park Drive near to Prince of Wales drive at around 8.45am today.

She was taken to Ipswich Hospital but was dead on arrival.

The road is currently closed between Prince of Wales Drive and Evesham Close while police carry out their investigation. Diversions are in place.

They are searching for a dark coloured hatchback car which is thought to have been involved in the incident.

A police spokeswoman said the car is thought to have veered off the road and collided with the woman before driving off.

Detective Inspector Jim Keeble who is leading the investigation appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “We believe the vehicle involved was a dark coloured hatchback which may have been modified and may have sustained rear end damage.”

He added they want to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision or who may have information about the vehicle.

Det Ins Keeble said: “Do you know anyone who went out this morning and came back without their car or with damage to it.”

Anyone with information about the accident or the car should contact Suffolk police on 01473 613500.
