Woman rider killed in moped smash

A driver has been arrested after a female moped rider died in an horrific crash on the A137 near Ipswich.

A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed in an horrific accident in Suffolk road this morning.

The fatal collision, between a silver Citro�n Xantia car, a red Ford Transit Connect van and a green Honda moped happened at around 6.40am on the A137 between Wherstead and Tattingstone.

The female motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

A Suffolk police spokeswoman said the woman, who is in her 20s, is from the local area.

A 51-year-old man from the Ipswich area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was taken into custody at Ipswich police station where he was interviewed by officers. He has been released on police bail until January 6, while further inquiries are carried out.

The A137was reopened at 1pm after being closed from Church Road in Tattingstone to Valley Lane in Wherstead for more than six hours.

Diversions had been set up and HGVs were not permitted to take the A137 from the A14.

During the morning rush hour traffic was queuing on the A14 westbound carriageway, across the Orwell Bridge, back to the Nacton turn off and there were also hold-ups on the A12 heading towards the Copdock interchange as traffic from the A137 was diverted there.
