Do you remember when wrestling legend Big Daddy competed at the Ipswich Corn Exchange in 1981?
The 1980s is seen by many as one of the greatest times for wrestling entertainment, with the WWF expanding further and icons like Hulk Hogan and ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper coming into prominence under the brand.
By this time, wrestling had become a firm part of British sporting entertainment and was often televised by ITV.
One of the best known wrestlers of the British scene in the 1980s was Big Daddy.
In 1981, Big Daddy, whose real name was Shirley Crabtree, took to the ring at the Corn Exchange in Ipswich for a tag team match - fighting with a partner.
He also competed in other parts of East Anglia, including Great Yarmouth.
The Ipswich Corn Exchange still hosts wrestling events today.
