MORE than 50 old friends stepped back in time at a Nacton Heath school reunion.

The class of 1975 gathered at The Rivers Social Club, in Landseer Road, to catch up on old times and see which faces they could recognise.

Holywells High School now stands on the former site of Nacton Heath and the school's familiar sports dome was just being erected when the class of '75 were there.

Julie Mott, 50, from Benacre Road, helped organise the reunion. She said: “It was brilliant! Someone even came from Milton Keynes to be there on the night.

“The club very kindly gave us the hall free of charge and Glyn Brame was good enough to take care of the disco. He played some great old 70s music like Suzie Quattro and got everyone dancing.

“We could have been there all night and I'm sure everyone would turn up if we arranged to do it again next week.

“It was a good opportunity to thank everyone who came and to remember those who have since passed away.”

The event was a big success and raised 150 which it was decided would be donated to East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH). Glenn Swan (aka Swannie) won 40 in the 'Play Your Cards Right' game and contributed his winnings to the final charity total.

Glyn Brame, 50, of Avondale Road, took control of the wheels of steel on the night, playing golden oldies by The Sweet, T-Rex and little Jimmy Osmond. Mr Brame, who met his wife at school, said: “It was absolutely fantastic and I just wish I could turn back time and do it all again.

“It was great to see more than 50 old friends together and none of them sitting down. Everyone was grooving to the sounds of the 70s.

“I was always a bit of a hooligan at school and if I could go back I would have settled down and worked a bit harder.

“The teachers used to say: 'Those of you who want to learn sit on the right, those of you who want to mess about sit on the left,' I was always on the left!

“Instead of doing the whole of the cross-country I would nip off half way, go to a friend's house and then rejoin everyone later.”

Mr Brame would like to hear from any old pupils who missed out this time but would like to attend another reunion planned in five years. You can contact him at glyn.brame@talktalk.net.
