A 12-YEAR-OLD girl was cut free from a car and airlifted to hospital after a three-vehicle crash in Copford, Essex, this afternoon.

The accident happened when a black X Type Jaguar, a white Ford Transit van and a silver VW Golf were in collision on London Road shortly before 2pm.

Firefighters from Colchester and Coggeshall used specialist cutting gear to remove the roof of the Golf and free the girl, who was a back-seat passenger in the car.

She had suffered from cuts and a back injury and was flown to Colchester General Hospital.

Two other people from the Golf - a male driver and a female passenger - were taken to hospital by land ambulances.

The man suffered from back pain and the woman injured her leg and her back.

Ambulance officer John Nicholls said: “The car our three patients were travelling in had suffered extensive damage.”

He added: “The occupants of the two other vehicles were checked over at the scene.

“Operationally, the incident ran smoothly thanks to everyone working so well together.”
