THREE quick-thinking primary school pupils were hailed heroes today for their swift action after spotting vandals attacking play equipment in an Ipswich park.
Best friends Zak Snowling, 11, Matthew Woollard, 10, and Jordan Pond, 10, saw two boys scale protective fencing, vandalise signs and scrawl graffiti on the unfinished Dales Park playground.
But instead of turning a blind eye, the brave, public-spirited trio took action and telephoned installers Norfolk-based Adventure Playground Limited to report the incident.
Managing director Keith Menaul was so impressed by the boys he wrote a letter of thanks to their school.
Zak, who made the call, said: "We saw the boys playing about in there and watched them. There was a sign with the telephone number of the company so we called them up.
"We told them what had happened to the building site and they (the company) asked for our names.

"They said not many young people would take the trouble to report things like that."
Delighted Beverley Sutton, class teacher for Zak and Matthew, was delighted with the trio: "I think what they did is marvellous.
"The boys are still at a young age and are community spirited enough to take action like that.
"It takes a lot of bravery. Public-spirited youngsters this age is encouraging for the future.
"The school is very proud."
The finishing touches have now been put on the play area.
Meanwhile, it may not be an end to their public spiritedness.
The trio, who are all pupils at Dales Hall Primary, haven't ruled out joining the police force when they are older.
