Labour says the crime rate is falling, with fewer crimes being reported and more being cleared up by the police.

House burglaries and car crime have seen a particularly dramatic decline over recent years.

The Tories point out that violent crime has risen. Violent crime includes everything from common assault, which can be as little as a slap across the face, to murder.

Most victims of violent crime are young and many are injured in fights in which they may not be blameless.

But we want to know if you feel more at risk from crime in 2005 than you did in 1997.
