IPSWICH Evening Star Witches skipper Chris Louis has been left bemused by suggestions the Witches had received interest from a mystery buyer.

Reports in Tuesday's Evening Star said a prominent local businessman had shown interest in the club, but so far had not received a reply from the Witches management.

However that news was all news to Louis, who hit back: “Our position is quite straightforward.

“In the 18 years or so my dad John has been promoting at Foxhall, he has never, ever, once received a bid for the club to be taken over, or for him to be part of a partnership within the club.

“And that fact remains today. The club has received no bid and neither has anyone shown any interest either through a phone call, electronically or by letter.

“The bid has apparently come from a mystery bidder, but in all honesty the mystery is all ours because we don't know anything about it.

“The first we knew of it was when we read it in the Star.”

In Tuesday's Star report the mystery bidder said: “I've shown an interest, but have not had a reply from the club.”

And that more than anything else has surprised and annoyed Louis.

“It makes us as a club look bad,” he said.

“It makes us as a club look as though people are wanting to speak to us about takeovers and bids and we are just not bothering to answer them. That is simply not the case. There have been no bids, so we have given no replies.”

In a disappointing campaign the Witches have struggled badly since the opening night loss of Mark Loram to a season-long injury.

Changes haven't been made to the riding personnel, apart from the bringing in of Jesper B Jensen to replace Loram, and there was disquiet on the terraces last week when Peterborough thrashed the Witches at Foxhall, in a lacklustre performance by the Suffolk club.

Louis knows things have not been right this season and did admit things could be set for a change.

“We are about to start talks about the way the club is structured,” Louis added.

“It is not to do with personnel, but a new set-up in the way things are operated is about to be talked through. I will be able to say more at a later date.”
