IPSWICH Town manager Jim Magilton has stressed the importance of Danny Haynes' loan spell at Millwall earlier this season.

The 19-year-old speed merchant is Town's potential trump card when they play Norwich City in Sunday's Coca-Cola Championship derby at Carrow Road.

Haynes has scored consistently at every level against the Canaries - netting the winner in last season's first team game in Norfolk and twice in the Portman Road success over the old enemy this term.

The match winner in Saturday's thrilling 2-1 success over Derby County after coming on as a late substitute, Haynes is second in Town's scoring charts to 16-goal Alan Lee.

He has now netted seven times, and is confident he can increase his tally on Sunday.

“Danny benefited from his loan with Millwall,” said Magilton.

“He was tending to take things in his stride and there was not always the hunger there should have been.

“But he came back after his experience in League One with a different attitude.

“Danny has worked extremely hard since and has every chance of reaching the top.

“It goes without saying that Danny will feature in Sunday's match.”

Haynes, who played five games for Millwall and scored two goals, has the hoodoo over Norwich.

And he could be joined at Carrow Road by another player who has benefited from going out on loan - 23-year-old central defender Ian Miller.

The player who began the season in the Ryman League with Bury Town, has had successful spells at Boston and Darlington.

“It does youngsters good to see how life works on the other side of the fence,” added Magilton. “And going on loan brings valuable first team match experience.”

Norwich have a number on doubts for Sunday's game.

Key player Darren Huckerby injured his back in the warm-up for Tuesday's defeat at Burnley, while Dion Dublin injured his ankle four minutes from time and Lee Croft took a blow to a hip.

All are rated “doubtful” for Sunday joining Gary Doherty, Yousseff Safri, Simon Lappin, Jurgen Colin and Mark Fotheringham as unlikely to figure. Luke Chadwick, Chris Brown, Peter Thorne and David Marshall are definitely out.
