SUCCESS at Anfield, Wembley and now Portman Road - Stowmarket Town's captain Matty Platt has plenty to look back on when he hangs up his boots.

And the 33-year-old has no doubt which victory gave him the biggest thrill.

He has played more than 600 games for Stowmarket, but none came anywhere near the thrill he gained from leading his side to Suffolk Senior Cup victory over Grundisburgh at Port-man Road last night.

“This was the best night of the lot,” he said.

Platt was a vital member of the Earl Soham Victoria side that won the Carlsberg Pub Cup in 2000 after semi-final and final success at Anfield and Wembley respectively.

“I am an Ipswich Town fan and playing at Portman Road was extra special.”

He lifted the trophy while holding his four-year-old daughter Emily, who was the Stowmarket mascot.

And Platt says that it was not only a great night for himself, but also for Stowmarket Town.

He said: “The last few seasons at Greens Meadow have not been very good.

“Now I think we have turned the corner. President John Bultitude and committee members John and Christine Gillingham deserve this more than the players.

“We were nervous in the opening 20 minutes, but after that I thought we controlled the game and we have got plenty to enjoy.”

Assistant manager Trevor Elmy said: “Playing regular midweek football gave us an advantage. We lasted the pace better and I thought we were the better side.”

The victory was a deserved reward for the work of manager Dave Hubbick the former Ipswich Town forward and Woodbridge Town manager, who is soon to start a touchline ban after being sent from the dug-out for a second time earlier this season.
