IPSWICH Town manager Jim Magilton had a warning for some of his more senior players after Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

“We have had people here for a number of years who have had an opportunity to play, but we keep conceding goals and it is now a case of changing personnel,” said Magilton.

“We started brightly, passed the ball well and looked very confident. Then from our set-play they broke and people did not take responsibility.

“We then got back into the game and had two great chances.

“We did not have enough people with the desire to put the ball in the net and then from another set-piece they had a free header to score their second goal.

“What is worrying is that we did not have people taking responsibility when it really mattered.”

Goalkeeper Mark Crossley, who joined Wednesday last week on loan from Fulham feels new manager Brian Laws will be a success at Hillsborough.

The experienced custodian said: “I played with Brian for two years at Nottingham Forest and I like him as a fella.

“I like his attitude and the way he does things. I remember how he did his coaching badges at a very early age.

“Brian Clough used to call him Coach. I only met him on Wednesday, but had an hour with him and he told me exactly what he was expecting of me and the other players.

“He had his game plan all worked out. He wanted us to press the ball and he even mentioned that the pitch was not in great nick. He had definitely done his homework.

“He's at a big club now and he couldn't have asked for a better start.

“He can be nasty and ruthless if you are not doing the business for him but he came into the dressing room at the end and said every player had given blood and guts for the team.”

“We rode our luck at times but away from home you need a bit of luck. Our two centre-halves were colossal.”

Laws said: “We made the simple things look difficult at times, but we limited Ipswich to minimal efforts after the interval, particularly in the last 20 minutes.

“The second goal was always going to be key and it was a magnificent set-play.”
