LIKE a finely tuned, high performance car, Dean Bowditch is purring on the starting grid waiting for a green light.
When manager Joe Royle gives the 17-year-old his starting orders, the scoring sensation is confident his career will take off.
Bowditch has begun just one match for Town, against Notts County in the Carling Cup last September. But in his 14 substitute appearances – before today's First Division game at Reading – he has made a huge impression.
"When my big chance comes I will take it," said Bowditch, with the same assurance he shows when
placing the ball into the net.
"I will shine, whether the opportunity comes sooner or later. All I can do is to work hard in training and when I come on and give the manager a decision to make."
