WHEN the half time whistle blew Melton had every reason to believe that they were comfortably on the road to a double over last year's champions.
By the end of the game their shell-shocked defenders were celebrating a rather fortunate point.
After early Grundisburgh chances had gone begging Melton upped their game and after Randall and Wheatley had gone close Fryatt headed the visitors ahead with a neat deflection past the stranded Brightey.
Melton doubled their advantage after 37 minutes when Lennard directed a fine header into the top corner from a Stoke's delivery – poor defending by Grundisburgh from the original corner.
Grundisburgh upped their game from the re-start and McKenna was in constant action with Beaumont twice having the ball plucked from his feet by the alert keeper.
A good effort from Messenger flew just over, then Toop – showing good skill down the right – failed to beat the keeper at the near post with team mates queuing up in the six-yard box.
After 70 minutes Squirrell won a free-kick on the edge of the box. This was quickly taken and squared into Beaumont who forced the ball over the line at the second attempt.
A fluffed clearance by McKenna was snapped up by Beaumont who fired in the equaliser from eight yards. The striker was to have another 'goal' disallowed for offside and a great bender from the same player hit the woodwork.
