BT Exact Ipswich Ladies 2 Clifton 1
BtExact Ipswich gained a good three points against the Bristol team. Despite
the disappointment from the previous week when Ipswich led for 60minutes
then let in 3 goals, they showed much greater composure in defence throughout
the full 70 minutes and fully deserved the victory. Hannah Robinson, the
Ipswich keeper had another outstanding match and with Hayley Spooner keeping
the Clifton centre forward under control, sweeper Karla Waddleton had little
action in the first half. The first goal came from a positive Ipswich build
up between England duo, Leisa King and Jo Ellis. A hard shot from the
penalty corner was catapulted into the air and the masterly control of
Lizzie Aldous deflected it past the Clifton keeper. Ipswich have an
excellent team atmosphere and coach Sandie Lister has seen this teamwork at
its best on the field of play. The interaction and fluidity between the
midfield and forwards has been the cornerstone of the teams success so far.
Clifton resonded well to harsh words at half time and started much the
stronger in the second half. A missed tackle led to the away team getting
the chance to level the score. Ipswich looked as if they were about to lose
their confidence but another fantastic effort from Tanya Barnard soon put
the opposition back on their heels and Ipswich began to regain possession.
The 52nd minute finally put the game to rest with Sarah Bamfield getting on
the end of a through ball from Barnard to make the final score 2-1. Ipswich
had a lot to prove and can now feel confident when they face Leicester
tomorrow.

Letchworth v Ipswich
Result: 2-2
Scorers (E Baker, D Rawlinson)
For the first time this season Ipswich conceded goals but a fantastic team
spirit and hard working ethos made sure that they left Letchworth with a
point.
Ipswich started the brighter, pinning Letchworth into their half and
creating several half chances but after a dominant opening spell it was the
Hertfordshire Team that started to apply the pressure. Ipswich held firm
with debut keeper and player of the match, 16 year old Laura Peskett
particularly outstanding in goal and the first half ended all square. The
2nd half saw the match spring to life, Ipswich taking the lead through a
neat deflection by another debutant Emma Baker. Baker touched a firm short
corner strike by Sarah Juggins past the Letchworth keeper and Ipswich looked
on course to record another fine win. Letchworth however stepped up the
pressure and driven on by some experienced and talented players they mounted
an endless attack on the Ipswich goal. After a run of 4 short corners,
Letchworth finally succeeded were all other teams so far had failed and
finally broke through the Ipswich defence, a neat short corner move that
left the keeper no chance levelled the match at 1-1.
Letchworth now cheered on by a vocal crowd were in control and Ipswich could
not keep possession of the ball. Another short corner saw Ipswich concede
again and it looked as if the Suffolk team were heading for the first league
defeat. However this Ipswich side has a superb team spirit and were
determined that they would not surrender their unbeaten record. With 10
minutes left Ipswich were awarded a controversial short corner and Debbie
Rawlinson fired her shot past the Letchworth keeper to earn a valuable point
for the Suffolk team. This was a hard match for both teams and Ipswich were
more than satisfied with their point. After a week off Ipswich return to
league action against fellow 2nd team Canterbury and will be looking to
cement their great start to the season.
Ipswich 4s 0 Southwold 3
The game started with constant end-to-end play and resulted in some strong
attacks from the Southwold players. The Ipswich defence absorbed the attack
with some excellent saves from Penny Dunnett; the pressure continued to be
soaked up and Sam Bennett played as though she was fighting for her country.
The half time score was 0-0.
The second half started brightly with various attempts at goal from both
teams. The game was on. Southwold continued to attack the Ipswich goal and
their persistence was awarded with a goal from Tracy Martin. After their
initial goal the pressure was still present and following on from this a
penalty flick was scored by Dawn Pretty. The Ipswich players never gave up
and with great forward play from Vanessa Allen supported brilliantly in
midfield by Lois Panting and Katherine Wilson, they began to put the
Southwold goal under pressure. Nevertheless on a break Southwold's quick
speed and accurate passing provided them with a final goal by Jenny Burage.
Overall not even a stoic performance from Ipswich was a match for the great
team play of Southwold.
