IF Ipswich Town manager George Burley is considering resting some of his regulars in Tuesday's Worthington Cup match at First Division Crewe he was been given plenty of food for thought.

Sixto Peralta scored two fine goals and Tommy Miller and Pablo Counago gave good performances as Town reserves beat West Ham 3-2 at Portman Road last night.

Argentinean Peralta struck with a tremendous volley just before half-time and then wrapped up a FA Premier Reserve League victory with a rare headed goal three minutes from the end.

Peralta also scored in the opening reserve game of the season at Charlton but struggled in the draw with Fulham with a thigh strain but he is now fit the 22-year-old is itching for senior action.

He said: "I'm very happy here at Ipswich Town. The injury was a set back with two weeks out but now I'm fit and I'm dying to get into the first team and play in the Premiership."

Tommy Miller, who looked more accomplished when he switched from the right wing to midfield after the break, showed his potential while Spaniard Counago twisted and turned to good effect up front.

Former Town Academy coach Paul Goddard, now assisting Hammers manager Glenn Roeder, must have watched with mixed feelings. Two of his former charges at Bent Lane, Justin Miller and Lee Beevers, did well at the heart of the Ipswich defence.

IPSWICH Town's home UEFA Cup second round tie against Helsingborgs on Thursday October 18 will be shown live on BBC1 with an 8.05 pm kick-off.
