DAVID Starie's first fight under the Golden Fists new promotion will be against Argentinian Bruno Godoy in South Africa on July 25.

The British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion from Elmswell has a contest scheduled for eight rounds in Carnival City.

A successful night will set him up for a defence of his titles in London sometime in September against Neil Linford of Peterborough.

Starie, the 26-year-old former double ABA champion with the Hurstlea-Kerridge Club at Needham Market, faces a tough 29-year-old South American opponent who has won 39 of his 64 fights.

He has lost 17 and drawn seven.

Starie said: "Godoy will be a formidable opponent to say the least. As his record shows, he certainly knows his way around a professional boxing ring. It will be a great experience to go to South Africa. I'm looking forward to it."

Manager Gordon Holmes has Starie training hard for the fight. The pair will probably fly to South Africa a week before the contest.
