Ipswich Town are set to hit their cap of 21,000 season ticket sales for the 2023/24 before the Early Bird deadline.

The Blues currently have close to 18,000 season tickets and it was decided, after plenty of research into what other clubs do, that a cap of 21,000 - around 70% of Portman Road's capacity - would be applied for the next campaign.

That number allows the club to accomodate away fans and still be able to sell a good number of matchday tickets throughout the season.

Town chief executive Mark Ashton encouraged supporters to act quick if they wanted to secure a seat for 2023/24 when speaking at a Fans' Forum last week - and they have done just that.

The Early Bird deadline was due to be at 5pm tomorrow, but the club has been forced to end that window with immediete effect this lunchtime.

That's because the 21,000 limit is close to being hit and the club wants to give current season ticket holders who haven't renewed (around 2,000) the opportunity to do so.

Season ticket holders who pay by direct debit will have had their seat automatically renewed for next season unless they have informed the club otherwise.

Ipswich's average attendance for League One fixtures this season has been 25,809.

With Kieran McKenna's men fighting for automatic promotion with six games to go, Saturday's home game with Charlton is another Portman Road sell-out.

Addressing supporters last Tuesday night, Ashton said: "We will cap season tickets this season at 21,000 and my advice to those wanting to get one is to do it pretty quick and don’t be disappointed.

"I think we’ll get to 21,000 and I think that will be more season tickets than they’ve got down the road (Norwich).

“It’s incredible. This fanbase just shocks me time and time again."
