Ipswich Town have signed Tottenham forward Dane Scarlett on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old made first team appearances for Spurs under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santos and Antonio Conte before spending last season on loan at League One club Portsmouth.

After bringing Scarlett on at half-time in Tuesday night's Carabao Cup game with Fulham, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou said the youngster has 'definitely got a future' at White Hart Lane.

The Premier League club have announced that the teenager has penned a new contract (length not disclosed) ahead of his move to Portman Road.

A key member of England's European Championship winning U19 side last summer, Scarlett becomes Ipswich's sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of striker George Hirst (Leicester, £1.5m), midfielder Jack Taylor (Peterborough, £1.5m), winger Omari Hutchinson (Chelsea, loan), full-back Brandon Williams (Manchester United, loan) and keeper Cieran Slicker (Man City, undisclosed).

He will add competition to an attacking unit that includes Wes Burns, Conor Chaplin, Nathan Broadhead, Kayden Jackson, Hutchinson, Marcus Harness, Sone Aluko, Hirst and Freddie Ladapo.

Scarlett, who will wear the number 24 shirt during his time at Town, told TownTV: “I’m really excited to get started here.

“I found out I was officially moving yesterday but the move has been in the works for a few weeks.

“I remember playing against Ipswich last season and it was a good game. I liked the way the team played so I’m really looking forward to being part of that."

Blues boss Kieran McKenna said: “Dane is a very exciting young forward who the staff and I have known about for a long time.

“He is an explosive finisher with both feet and someone who has good movement in the final third. He is also someone who works very well for the team out of possession.

“Dane is ready for his second loan spell having gained a year’s worth of experience with Portsmouth last season, and we feel that puts him in a good position to step up to this level and be an important member of the squad. We’re excited to have him here.”
