Norwich City joint majority shareholders Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones say they are "saddened" by Ipswich Town's failure to condemn an attack on their car.

Town fans crowded the well-known Norwich owners' BMW as they were driven into the Tractor Boys' Portman Road stadium on December 16.

That came just over an hour before the East Anglian Derby on that day, which ended 2-2 after Nathan Broadhead and Wes Burns scored for Town and Jonathan Rowe hit twice for the visitors.

A beer can was thrown onto the car during the drive in, with Smith shaken by the incident.

Pictures from the day showed a can of Carlsberg on the front of the vehicle carrying the cook, 82, and her husband, 83.

There was a heavy police presence outside Portman Road ahead of the much-anticipated game.

Smith and husband Wynn Jones have now issued the following statement, after Town chose not to publicly respond: "Delia and Michael would like to thank all the Ipswich Town supporters who are still sending messages of support, and even flowers, after the event to apologise for what took place at the derby match on Saturday, 16th December.

"There has been a very good relationship with Ipswich Town during our tenure of 28 years, and we are saddened that we are yet to receive a public apology."

It is understood that a private acknowledgment was made by figures behind the scenes at Ipswich after they were contacted by their counterparts about the incident, but no public apology or condemnation has been made.

The match between the East Anglian rivals was the first in almost five years, with Ipswich returning to the Championship this season.
