Ipswich Town striker George Hirst has shared a simple message on social media after undergoing surgery on his hamstring injury.

The hard-working hitman ruptured his hamstring early in the Boxing Day draw with table-toppers Leicester City, a major blow for both player and club.

Boss Kieran McKenna later revealed that the 24-year-old would have to go under the knife to repair the injury.

And it appears he now has, having shared a picture of himself in his hospital bed on Instagram.

The striker, who's bagged six goals and laid on six assists so far this season, wrote simply: "Back soon."

McKenna said recently: "George is seeing a surgeon this week for a repair to a rupture to his hamstring. It will be the very, very back end of the season before he will be eligible.

"We wanted to add a goalscorer (in the January transfer window) before George's injury. Now he's ruled out for a large majority of the season that increases that importance."
