Kayne van Oevelen has claimed that he joined Ipswich Town because the club ‘had a really good plan’ for him.
The goalkeeper left FC Volendam in July to make the move to Portman Road, with the Eredivisie outfit receiving a £3.4m fee.
However, it was soon revealed that the Blues would look to loan him out at the end of pre-season, with numerous Championship teams linked.
However, La Liga side Valencia – who tried to sign him permanently before he joined Town – won the race to take him on for the 2026/27 campaign.
“This summer was a really weird summer,” Van Oevelen said when presented to journalists at Mestalla. “It took very long, but I’m happy to be here now.

“I went to Ipswich because they had a really good plan for me, but I’m happy to be here now.”
Asked about his ambitions during his brief stint in Suffolk before departing on loan, Van Oevelen replied: “To prove myself, to maybe get in the team, or push the other goalkeepers.
“Then it was up to Ipswich to make the decision, what’s the best for me.
“I’m really happy that this happened, that I’ve gone on loan to Valencia.”
Van Oevelen’s deal doesn’t include an option for Valencia to buy him next summer, but it remains to be seen whether his future lies in Spain, or whether he’ll return to fight for a place at Portman Road next summer.
“That’s up to the future,” he explained. “I don’t know. I’ve been here for, like, two days now.
“It’s up to the future, what that will be.”
