KEITH Norton, who led Achilles to a couple of Metaltec SIL Senior Division championships in back in charge of the Stone Lodge Lane-based club.

He took charge in the unlucky 2-1 Suffolk Senior Cup home defeat against Grundisburgh last Saturday and will remain running the team for tomorrow's league match at Melton St Audry's.

Norton has not ruled himself out of taking the job on a permanent basis again.

"Previous manager Trevor Childs decided to stand down and concentrate on playing," said Norton today. "I was asked to take temporary charge and the committee has yet to meet to discuss a replacement.

"If results over the next few games go well then I may put myself in the frame. I just don't know at the moment."

Norton's wife Linda is secretary of Achilles and he has been on the Achilles scene without having an official post.

"I had just been helping out here and there," he said. "The club has accepted Trevor's reasons and he continues to play for us.

"St Audry's have done well since their promotion at the end of last season and we will have a tough task tomorrow."

The situation surrounding Achilles' ground is now clearer. By the start of next season they should be using new changing rooms at the top end of the ground.

Houses are to built on part of their Pauls ground with the current clubhouse being demolished and the loss of tennis, hockey and cricket. Housing will come to within 20 feet of the bottom goal but the football pitch will not be affected.

Michael Reeder is unavailable for Achilles tomorrow in a match against a Saints side that is now jointly managed by Simon Fryatt.

The former long-serving Woodbridge Town striker, who began this season as assistant manager at Jewson League Stanway Rovers, runs the St Audry's side with Dave Spink.

The Melton-based club is holding a reunion match in conjunction with the official opening of the football section at their new ground.

Starting at 2pm on Sunday, October 28 it will between Old All-Stars side and an All-Stars XI. The club is trying to contact as many ex-players, officials and supporters as possible with the match followed by a buffet and social afternoon/evening.

For more information contact Phil Fairbrother (07775) 683755 or 01394-382734 evenings, or Dave Spink 07785-725706 or 01394-384513.

Leaders Walsham-le-Willows are at home to second-placed Ipswich Athletic, the two clubs nominated for the September SIL senior club of the month award.
